School boards have an important job – educating young people for success in a constantly changing world. The decisions boards make shape the learning program in the schools of the division, influence students’ day-to-day experiences in their classrooms, and affect parents’ involvement in their children’s education.
School Board Development Services provides information, services and resources to strengthen school boards’ capacity to govern effectively.
As well as offering services to school boards, The Saskatchewan School Boards Association advocates for the school program and student achievement within the broader K-12 education system.
As part of the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, School Board Development Services offers the following services to Saskatchewan School Boards:
- Trustee Education and Board Development
- Information and Research
- Policy Support
SSBA Governance Handbook
This Governance Handbook is designed to assist new – and seasoned – members of School Boards in Saskatchewan in understanding and fulfilling their roles and responsibilities. The Governance Handbook was developed by the Saskatchewan School Boards Association, with the assistance of Brown Governance Inc.
Professional Director Certification Program
The Professional Director Certification Program was developed to deliver a world-class, university-level education program that is designed specifically for school board members to support them in pursuing excellence in school board governance.
The education portion of the program is comprised of four separate two-day long modules, and will include a mix of adult learning model delivery mechanisms.
Based on some feedback from trustees, registrants are now able to enrol in individual modules if unable to take the full program. For more information, please review the links below.
